Stars & Strikes

Since 1990, Cadence has designated Silicon Valley organizations to receive funds raised through its unique fundraising effort called Stars & Strikes®. To date, the fundraiser has netted over $10 million. Underwritten by Cadence, Stars & Strikes brings together local companies and celebrities in a bowling competition that raises funds for important projects that support the Silicon Valley community. The 2008 beneficiary, May Institute, is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization serving children with autism and other developmental disabilities. The money raised is earmarked for the creation of a pediatric specialty center at Good Samaritan Hospital's Mission Oaks campus scheduled to open at the end of 2008. Stars & Strikes funding will accelerate implementation of this project by providing the capital to renovate the clinical space and outfit the May Institute Pediatric Specialty Center. May Institute will be the clinical lead and operators of the center. Silicon Valley Children's Hospital Foundation will connect pediatricians and other specialists, and provide ongoing funding for operating expenses.

Stars & Strikes 2008 - Register to be a sponsor!

By way of the Stars & Strikes fundraiser, corporate and community partners along with Cadence employees have supported Silicon Valley nonprofit organizations meeting critical community needs. The recipients of past funding are still reaping the benefit of our involvement:
The Bill Wilson Center purchased buildings that provide emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth in downtown San Jose
InnVision built a shelter for homeless women and children, and opened The Georgia Travis Center to provide day care and job training
Resource Area for Teachers has a permanent distribution center for teaching materials benefiting thousands of school children each year
The Children's Discovery Museum now has an outdoor amphitheatre and learning lab that hosts after-school activities and summer programs for at-risk youth
Palo Alto VA Hospital built a 21-room Fisher House for the families of wounded veterans and active-duty military being treated at the hospital
Women's Initiative is opening a training center/business incubator to help thousands of low-income women start their own businesses

Beneficiary Selection

Due to the substantial amount of money raised for a single beneficiary, the organizations selected typically submit a capital project that will improve or increase the organization's capacity and services, making a long-lasting impact on those served and the community. We especially look for capital campaign projects where Stars & Strikes funding is the major or lead contribution, and/or where the contribution can be leveraged or matched with other sources of funding. Cadence considers highly desirable the opportunity to be either the highly leveraged-seed/kick-off funding, or the capstone contribution. Cadence will announce its program for 2009 proposals later this year.
